Expanding by Brick and Pixel

Over the past few months, Han Translation has expanded its web store and translation capacity.

On the art side, several hundred new designs have been added to our product inventory. These range in language and style, as we have aimed to satisfy the diversified interests of our loyal customers. We are also considering other web store supply vendors, and hope to offer a new range of product types in the near future.

On the translation side, our Nagoya office has finished its relocation and expansion. This move was a needed step to facilitate the growth of our China-to-Japan business services. While we continue to operate our Chicago office, many of our resources have shifted to Asia. However, this has only given us more tools to better fulfill the needs of our global clients.

These are just a few of the exciting updates that we have been involved in with our translation and design work. All in an effort to add as much value as possible to what we do, which allows our clients to be even more successful at what they do best (and save on costs).

Virtual Dalian

Han Translation is providing the language interface for a new hi-tech project that steps beyond the 2D Internet into a new 3D world. Virtual Dalian will be a complete digital reproduction of the famous Chinese city in the computer reality of Second Life. Iconic buildings from the historic central square are currently on display and open to the public. Walk around the streets or ride the vintage electric trolleys, while exploring this virtual world as an avatar - your digital self. Journey back in history to Russian or Japanese areas, or visit the modern locations that have transformed this vital seaport into a center for technology development.

Full scale construction of the city is currently underway, with extensive time spent on ensuring accurate and historic architectural details. Until completed, visitors are welcome to enter the finished locations, which function as 3D museums. Virtual travel guides, maps, brochures, and other digital gifts are also offered free to the public.

Just as Dalian is a historic venue in Real Life, Virtual Dalian is becoming an equally famous landmark in the Metaverse. The Virtual Dalian project was created exclusively by SongLi. The 3D experience provides another way to introduce the city to the world, for people unable to visit in person. Login to Second Life from your computer and enter a simulation of Dalian, all from the comfort of home.

Dalian Photobook by SongLi

Everyday Dalian: Life in Modern Manchuria. A former colony briefly founded by Russia but later developed over two generations by Japan, Dalian has always been a strategic hub for control of Northeast China. SongLi's photography collection about the city and its population has won multiple international awards. Each image captures the richness and color of the modern-day Manchurian metropolis, documenting its transition over six years.

The "slice of life" presentation, a hallmark style of SongLi, offers a new depth to the environments and people living in this historic port. These pictures also present an original artistic and realistic view of a community shaped by the turbulent legacy of its foreign occupation, and the aftermath of the bitter Chinese Civil War, to emerge as one of the leading cities in the country.

This book also comes with a foreword by Phil Borges. The humanitarian photographer is famous for his signature black and white portraits with hand tinted skin tones of endangered cultures around the world.

The Brave Little Mongolian Sisters

An original fairy-tale inspired by true events from the 1960s, "Brave Little Mongolian Sisters" is the heroic tale of two young nomadic girls in Northern Asia. Blossom and Jade provided for their sick parents by raising their poor family's sheep herd. Living in the desolate wilderness, the animals offered their only source of income. One winter their hard life becomes even more desperate, when the frail girls and their flock are attacked by an evil and hungry witch. The sisters struggle against many hardships and the icy elements to protect their sheep, and defy the menacing threat that continues to chase them.

ANIMA: a novel about Second Life

A dark tale that weaves a fictionalized reality with the real history and environments in the virtual computer world of Second Life. Ben Tao is the avatar of a fired programmer who hacks Second Life. His goal is to profit from a false intellectual property claim. However, instead of changing the creation date for the items he has stolen, he is actually sending them back in time to the creation of the 3D world. This software exploit opens a wormhole of conflicting realities that unfold in a disjointed nightmare. Ben quickly finds himself controlled by an entity who robs him of all free will. Or is he just going insane? As the digital and real worlds merge in his mental interchange, he uncovers a secret that affects all of humanity. From this bleak future, Ben has only one chance to escape.
